Violin Mastery in the 21st Century - The Soundpillar Difference

Most everyone has or will take music lessons at some point in their life.  Yet, sadly, only a small fraction of this population will truly achieve proficiency in their chosen instrument. Most people both start and end lessons in their early childhood settling for only a rudimentary knowledge of their instrument. All the time and money sacrified by their parents for the hopeful burgeoning of their child's talent one day, sadly, gone to waste.

It doesn't have to be like this.

Here at Soundpillar, we strive to make learning the violin an enjoyable endeavor. We do everything we can to help you or your child progress in the violin rapidly and effectively. Towards this end, we implement creative and compelling methodologies and systems that set ourselves heads and shoulders above your average music lesson.

Technology

Soundpillar uses state-of-the-art audio and video recording equipment to give immediate feedback to the student. Lesson evaluations and assignments are recorded to mp3 files, and regularly recorded to video as well, and further supplemented with a detailed spreadsheet from each lesson of how well the student did, what is assigned for the next week, and what the specific objectives are for each assignment.

Motivation

There has been much research recently into what is necessary for mastery of a discipline, such as learning the violin, as well as research into what ultimately motivates us to stick with what we know is necessary for mastery. Built into the curriculum is a natural 8-phase cycle, that helps intervalize what is focused on week to week, culminating in a virtual performance every 4th and 8th lesson of a cycle. This parallels the intervalization that athletes use when training for an event. In addition to breaking up monotony and keeping both practice and lesson times interesting, we also provide incentives- both short-term and long-term, that motivate the student further to keep progressing and improving.

Comprehensive

Like many music teachers focus only on teaching, here at Soundpillar, we strive for excellence in teaching the violin, or pedagogy. But unlike many teachers, we know that what is taught during lessons is only a small part of the entire picture. For the student to master the violin, it is not enough to have excellent teaching. The student must also know how to practice effectively, and how to motivate one's self to keep practicing day after day, and finally, must also gain real-life experience of performing on stage. Soundpillar partners with the students, the students' parents, and the local community, to make sure the four foundations of Practice, Perseverance, Pedagogy, and Performance are established and nurtured.

Creativity

Just like the lesson intervalizations mentioned under Motivation above, Soundpillar constantly seeks to bring in creative ideas and methods into our teaching. We believe that between disciplines of music, science, and nature, there are many parallels, and that the pursuit of excellence in any single discipline only benefits from the incorporation of concepts from many disciplines.

Setting Foundations, Raising the Stage - The Soundpillar Model

At Soundpillar Academy, we believe there are four foundations that are crucial to the development of the music student. Each of these four "pillars" must be built and constantly strengthened. Together, they support the stage on which the student stands. As each of these foundations grow, so does the student progress, achieving ever higher in vioiln mastery.

These four pillars are: Perseverance, Practice, Pedagogy, and Performance
